What is "detailing"?

Detailing is largely about patience and simply put, the attention to detail. The equipment and products we use are specifically designed for each individual job to get the most of your service.

For example, lets take the wheels. You could just use a simple soap or shampoo, or even dish soap. But as detailers we have to consider each individual aspect of the job. Brake discs and pads release iron particles, which need to be chemically removed to restore the shine. We have to use effective wheel brushes and detergents to get into every corner, including the barrels, without scratching the alloys or the badges. The tyres need to be cleaned, and then dressed to restore the black colour of the rubber.

We take this attention to every aspect of the car to ensure it is returned to you in its best possible condition.

New cars often come with swirl marks, industrial fallout embedded into the paint and it is surprising how many cars are damaged in transport from the factories.

The cleaning and preparation steps in the detailing process can correct all of these issues. A simple washing process will not correct any paintwork imperfections, but a careful combination of fallout remover, clay baring and a correction polish, topped by a ceramic coating or even a synthetic sealant will ensure it looks "better than new".

Polishing / paint correction

This is the process of polishing the paintwork to remove swirl marks, light scratches, and other surface imperfections. It’s one of the most effective ways to restore depth and clarity to your vehicle’s finish.

There are different polishes depending on the level of correction required:

All-in-one polishes offer light correction and gloss in a single step.
Finishing polishes refine the surface after a heavier polish.
Compound polishes are more aggressive, used to cut through deeper defects and level the surface.

During any polish, we actually remove a microscopic layer of clear coat, so care and experience are critical. We typically aim for around 90% correction - enough to dramatically improve the finish while preserving the long-term health of the paint. Chasing 100% can often do more harm than good.

Once the polishing is complete, we always follow up with a protective layer - whether that’s a wax, sealant, or ceramic coating - to lock in the results and shield the fresh finish from the elements.

Leather vs fabric seats

Seats take a lot of wear, and over time they collect dirt, body oils, food spills, and general grime. Cleaning them properly means using the right method for the material.

Fabric seats hold dust and stains deep in the fibres. We use dedicated cleaners and extraction tools to pull out the dirt and refresh the material, not just on the surface but deep down.

Leather needs careful treatment. Harsh products can dry it out or cause damage. We use premium leather-safe cleaners followed by conditioner to keep it soft, clean, and protected from cracking or fading.

Every seat gets the right care with the right product, to keep it looking and feeling like it should.

The importance of clay bar treatment

If you’ve never heard of clay bar treatment, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most effective ways to give your paintwork a smooth, flawless finish.

Over time, contaminants like tree sap, industrial fallout, and pollution bond to your paint, making it rough to the touch and dulling its shine. A clay bar removes these impurities, giving you a surface that feels as smooth as glass and prepares it for polishing and sealing.

What actually is a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to your car’s exterior, creating a chemical bond with the paint. Think of it as an invisible shield that protects your vehicle from the elements. It forms a hydrophobic surface, which means water and contaminants like dirt, grime, and road salts won’t stick as easily, making your car easier to clean and maintain.

But it’s not just about the water repelling. Ceramic coatings offer protection from UV rays, oxidation, tree sap, bird droppings, and even minor scratches. The coating essentially acts as a protective layer over the paint, preserving its depth and shine for months or even years, depending on the type of coating used.

What makes ceramic coatings so effective is their durability. Unlike traditional waxes or sealants that wear off in a matter of weeks, a properly applied ceramic coating can last anywhere from 1 to 5 years, providing long-lasting protection without the need for constant reapplication.
